Bike Light Giveaway

Put on a mask and roll up (on your bike) to the San Diego Central Library to get some bike lights!

Why do we do a yearly bike light giveaway?
The end of day light savings is at 2am on November 1st this year. To ensure that all you bike riders are staying safe and seen out there on the roads with the shorter day light hours we give away free bike lights.
Are they really free?
Yes! The silicone blinky lights shown here are FREE to anyone who arrives WITH A BICYCLE. (No, you can not drive to the event to get your free bike lights, we want to make sure that these lights are being used by bike riders who need them.)
But hang on! This year our friends from LightMeUp Safety Lights will be joining us too! They’ll be selling and installing wheel lights! These lights are $10 per wheel and installation is included.
We’re excited to announce that we’re sweetening up the event with our favorite local juice company, Suja Juice! So while you’re waiting for LightMeUp Safety Lights to make your bike rad with some fresh new wheel lights, check out Suja Juice and see what they’ve got to offer in the way of delicious and sustainable products!
What about COVID-19?
This is an outdoor distribution event. Every one who is working, volunteering and/or picking up bike lights is required to wear a face covering. Please follow posted signs and markings to ensure that you are keeping a safe distance from other attendees.
Hand sanitizer will be available and there will be public bathrooms nearby.
If you feel unwell or have a fever/cough please stay home to protect yourself and others.
What do I need to be legal on the road at night?
This may sound crazy but to be totally legal on the roads at night you need to have a front white light, a red rear light and reflectors on the front, back, wheels and pedals…

¡Este año, nuestros amigos de LightMeUp Safety Lights van a estar vendiendo e instalando luces! Estas luces se instalan en las llantas de tu bicicleta y cuestan $10 (instalación incluida).

¿Y cuáles precauciones tomarán respecto al COVID-19?
Este evento es un evento de distribución al aire libre. Todos nuestros empleados, voluntarios, y/o personas recibiendo luces son obligados a usar una mascarilla. Por favor, siga las instrucciones, los marcados, y rótulos para asegurar que mantenga una distancia segura de otros participantes.
Desinfectante será disponible, y baños públicos serán cercanos.
Si se siente mal, o tiene fiebre/tos, por favor, permanezca en casa para proteger otros participantes, y usted mismo.
¿Que necesito para andar en bici legalmente durante la noche?
Esto puede sonar loco, pero, para andar en bici legalmente durante la noche, un ciclista necesita: una luz delantera blanca, una luz trasera roja, y reflectores montados en las ruedas (delantera y trasera) y los pedales.
