Bike Coalition awards City of San Diego, organizations and volunteers for 2014 bike achievements

SAN DIEGO, December 8, 2014 – San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, an organization that advocates for and protects the rights of all people who ride bicycles, hits the streets with winter cheer for it’s Holiday Joy Ride on Thursday, December 11. Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers and $30 to become a member.

The fourth-annual family-friendly ride begins at 5:30 p.m. in Balboa Park at Panama 66 (4150 El Prado), encouraging festive costumes and featuring a “light-your-bike” parade of bicycles strung with Christmas lights and wrapped like presents. (more…)


Thousands Flock to Hillcrest, Bankers Hill for San Diego’s Only Open-Streets Celebration

Survey reports nearly all participants attend CicloSDias for safe space to ride and walk

SAN DIEGO, November 18, 2014 – The day University Avenue and 6th Avenue closed to cars and opened to the public was the day thousands of people from throughout the region pedaled, walked, skipped, scooted and skated more than two miles of car-free roads. San Diego’s third-ever CicloSDias rolled through the Hillcrest and Bankers Hill communities on Sunday, November 9 drawing people out of their cars and into the streets.

Bicycle Coalition Names Hannah Williams as Project Coordinator

Williams brings non-profit leadership, regional bicycle project expertise

SAN DIEGO, October 15, 2014 – The San Diego Bike Coalition, an organization that advocates for and protects the rights of all people who ride bicycles, announced Hannah Williams to fill the organization’s new project coordinator position. Williams will be responsible for growing and strengthening the Bicycle Coalition’s events and managing grants throughout the county including the Regional Bike Walk Alliance and the Carlsbad Village Active Living Campaign and Education program.

Governor Brown Signs Bill to Enhance Bicycle Safety

San Diego Bike Coalition says new state law allows local governments to incorporate physically separated lanes

SAN DIEGO, September 26, 2014 – This week Governor Brown signed AB 1193, The Protected Bikeways Act, giving local governments the liberty to implement modernized bicycling infrastructure. Sponsored by the California Bicycle Coalition and authored by California Assemblymember Phil Ting, The Protected Bikeways Act encourages the implementation of bicycle lanes with physical separation from automobile traffic through the use of medians, curbs, posts and more.

The San Diego Bicycle Coalition celebrates Governor Brown’s decision to make physically separated bikeways viable options for local bicycle infrastructure and the anticipated effect such safety enhancements will have on local riders.  (more…)

Founder of her own marketing company, Elayne pulls from her background in strategic marketing for top-tier agencies, entrepreneurial endeavors and passion for all things bicycles to guide the Coalition.

Bike Coalition Executive Director Appointed to City’s First-Ever Bicycle Advisory Committee

Andy Hanshaw appointed to help guide city bicycle initiatives until mid-2016

SAN DIEGO, July 29, 2014 – Today, San Diego City Council appointed Andy Hanshaw to the City’s first-ever Bicycle Advisory Committee with a term ending July 1, 2016. Recommendations from Mayor Faulconer included Hanshaw, executive director of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and Point Loma resident, and Kyle Heiskala of Hillcrest.

USA Today Names San Diego in Ten Best Bike-Friendly Cities

San Diego only California city recognized in national bikeability list

Beer and bike lovers unite for Summer Solstice ride, brewery tour on Friday

 SAN DIEGO, June 16, 2014 – This Friday the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition gears up to host its second-annual Summer Solstice event, combining a bicycle ride and tour of Green Flash Brewing Company to celebrate the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.
