The Bike Coalition Presents Golden Gear Awards for 2015 at 5th Annual Holiday Joy Ride

The Bike Coalition awarded the City of Chula Vista, TREK, REI, Monique Lopez and Mike Samyn for 2015 bike achievements

The San Diego County Bike Coalition, an organization that advocates for and protects the rights of all people who ride bicycles, hit the streets with winter cheer during the Holiday Joy Ride on Thursday, December 10.

The fifth-annual family-friendly ride began at in Balboa Park at Panama 66. Riders wore festive costumes  and rode bicycles strung with Christmas lights and wrapped like presents through the park and around Hillcrest and back. (more…)


Bicycle Coalition Names Michelle Luellen as Education Programs Manager

Luellen brings non-profit leadership, advocacy and regional project expertise 

SAN DIEGO, November 16, 2015 – The San Diego Bike Coalition, an organization that advocates for and protects the rights of all people who ride bicycles, announced Michelle Luellen to become its new education programs manager. Luellen will oversee and implement the Coalition’s education projects, including beginner courses and kid-focused community rides to teach safety and traffic skills as well as neighborhood rides in each of San Diego County’s 18 cities.



Erin Stephens named as Membership and Marketing Coordinator

Stephens brings knowledge of non-profit development to countywide organization

SANDAG Transportation Committee Takes Action on Uptown Bike Project – Ride, Rally and Support help to Make Changes to Proposed Recommendation

On Friday, June 5th, the SANDAG Transportation Committee took action on the $40 million Uptown Bikeway Corridor project (part of the $200 million early Action Program for the Regional Bike Plan). The original design concept brought forward after months of community input called for  12 miles of contiguous and protected bike lanes through areas of downtown to Hillcrest, Five Points to North Park, Hillcrest to Mission Valley, Hillcrest to Balboa Park and Five Points to Old Town.  However, just prior to the Transportation Committee meeting, the staff recommendation for the agenda included a “constrained” Option (or same as existing condition) along the entire length of University Avenue.  Upon learning of this recommendation the Bike Coalition and bike community immediately took action to call attention to the shortcomings and safety concerns left by this constrained option.  The Bike Coalition organized a “Rally and Ride” on the morning of the Transportation Committee meeting from Hillcrest to the SANDAG offices downtown.
