Program Director

The Program Director’s primary work is overseeing grants, contracts and education programs for bike safety and outreach.

Position: Full-time

Description

The Programs Director is responsible for grant writing, grant reporting, building relationships with community partners and managing marketing for educational programs that will grow the cycling community in San Diego County. This role includes designing bike and ebike classes for people of all ages, planning bike rides and organizing outreach events such as sustainability fairs and transportation expos. The Program Director ensures that all bike programs are staffed and that instructors have the appropriate knowledge, skills and resources to teach effectively.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Office administration including staffing bike programs, invoicing, budgeting
  • Applying to grants, executing grants, invoicing for program work, reporting on projects, and collaborating with grant partners
  • Managing educational programs including year-round bike safety classes and designing curricula for youth and adults
  • Content creation for programs including overseeing graphic design, video creation and inclusive content about bike safety and usage
  • Overseeing the work of the SDCBC education team
  • Providing administrative support for programs including coordinating locations, format, materials and instructors and volunteers
  • Marketing for classes and events, working with communications team and assisting with social media and website
  • Assisting with community outreach, event participation, networking with community leaders, and other opportunities as they arise
  • Providing support to board members, the Education Committee and the Outreach & Equity Committee
  • Overseeing Smart Cycling program throughout San Diego County and assisting with the annual League of American Bicyclists’ Instructor Seminar.

Requirements:

  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Self-driven and able to work independently
  • Ability to ride a bicycle (League of American Bicyclist Certified Instructor Certification or equivalent preferred)
  • Ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds (Spanish language skill preferred)
  • Genuine interest in bicycles, sustainable transportation, transportation justice, equity and health/wellness
