Bike Month 2017!

May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Here in San Diego, we celebrate all month long, starting with our kickoff party on May 4th. Check out the entire list of events to join – happy riding!

May 4: Cyclo de Mayo Bike Month Kickoff Party
(Quartyard, 102 Market St, San Diego, CA 92101, 5:30pm)
Join us for our free kickoff celebration! We will gather at Quartyard at 5:30, head out for a fun, leisurely bike ride through Barrio Logan, and reconvene back at Quartyard for a night of games, music, food, and fun!

May 6: San Ysidro Base Road Safety Bike Class
(The Front 147 West San Ysidro Boulevard,  9am-1 pm)
In collaboration with Casa Familiar and the San Ysidro Foundation, SDCBC will host a Spanish Language Bike class. We will host a short in-class portion, and an on the road portion.

May 13: Together We Ride
(Kimball Park 12th Street and D Avenue National City, 9am-12noon)
Meet at Kimball Park for a short community bike ride and stay for the community bike festival! Bring your bike and a helmet! Free food, prizes! Register to win a bike!

May 13: The Empire Bikes Back
(Morse High School Parking Lot 6905 Skyline Drive, 10am – 12noon)
In collaboration with Southeastern Kiwanis, Urban Collaborative project and Circulate San Diego we will host a Star Wars themed bike rodeo, the largest bike rodeo in Southeastern San Diego! Free food, prizes! Register to win a bike!

May 18: Bike To Work Day!
(All around San Diego County)
Our Christmas Day! Plan on biking to work this day with the rest of San Diego, and checking out the pit stops all over the county to celebrate!

May 19: Coronado Bikes to the Movies
(Tidelands Park 2000 Mullinex Dr, Coronado, CA 92118, 6-8pm rodeo, movie starting at 8pm)
Ride your bike to Tidelands Park, participate in a bike rodeo and stay for the movie! In collaboration with the City of Coronado.

May 20: Advocacy Training & Bike Ride
(The Front San Ysidro 147 West San Ysidro Boulevard San Diego CA 92173, 9-11 a.m.)
In collaboration with Casa Familiar and the San Ysidro Foundation, SDCBC will host a bike advocacy training and bike ride. We will meet with SANDAG officials to speak about the Border to Bayshore Bikeway project and then ride our bikes on the potential route, while learning how to advocate for this important bicycle infrastructure in our community.

May 21: Grand Ave Festival
(Downtown Escondido, 9-5pm)
SDCBC will host a booth at the Grand Ave Festival in Escondido. It takes place in the historic downtown on Grand Ave from Center City to Juniper. Shop from hundreds of vendors for unique hand-crafted gifts and imports. Enjoy international cuisine and local entertainment!

May 21: Pedal To The Park
(Petco Park)
Pedal to the Park (PTP) is an urban experience, demonstrating bicycle as a fun, healthy, green and family-friendly way to go to a Padres ballgame, during National Bike Month!

May 21: Enjoy The Ride: Art Happy Hour
(The Wine Pub, 4:30-7:30 p.m.)
You’re invited to enjoy a few hours of creative fun at our Spring Art Happy Hour! Hosted by The Wine Pub (21+), enjoy a 3 hr. painting workshop on the cozy Wine Pub patio and help make bicycling better in San Diego County! Learn to paint your own “Enjoy The Ride” artwork, with a bit of help from ArtBeat artist and teacher, Kristel Boe. Bonus ticket includes 1-year membership to the SDCBC.

May 25: May Bikes On Tap!
(Tiger! Tiger! at 5:30 pm)
Tiger!Tiger! will be donating 10% of sales to the SDCBC! Come celebrate the finale of Bike Month before Memorial Day weekend with a happy hour. Cheers!

May 27: Bike to Art
(King Chavez Elementary School 415 31st St, San Diego 92102, 9am-1pm)
In Collaboration with King Chavez Elementary School, and the Urban Collaborative Project, we will meet at King Chavez Elementary School and ride with Logan Heights community members to Chicano Park, where there will be a community-run art exposition, BMX bike contest, bike rodeos, raffles and more!
