Elementary Safety Assembly

This program is for grades K-3 or 4-5/6. This 40 minute assembly will cover the basics of pedestrian and bike safety. Included in this program is a helmet fitting demonstration, bike safety talk, pedestrian safety talk, and interactive intersection crossing demonstration involving bikes and pedestrians. This program is ideal for grades K-3 to give them the safety tips they need to begin walking and biking to school. Each assembly can accommodate approximately 300 students.

Middle/High School Workshop
This small group, 40 minute interactive presentation covers the basics of riding a bike including: laws, bike handling tips, bike maintenance, sustainability, and health. A bike is not needed for this workshop, however a live demonstration will be provided to cover basic bike maintenance. There will be interactive opportunities for students to show their understanding of lane positioning, controlling a lane, and crossing an intersection.  This workshop is ideal for both those currently riding or interested in bike riding, and can accommodate up to 300 students.

Bike Rodeos:

A Bike Rodeo is a bicycle skills event, taught on a school playground or parking lot, which provides an opportunity for kids and teens to practice and develop skills that will help them become better bicyclist and avoid typical crashes. Its objective is to teach children and teens the importance of seeing, being seen and remain under control at all times when riding a bicycle. This is achieved through a series of bicycle handling drills and simulation of traffic situations. Bicycle skills stations give students the opportunity to practice a variety of specific bike handling skills and procedures for operating a bike legally and more safely on the street.

Community Rides:

Community Rides offer kids and parents an opportunity to ride with an instructor safely around their neighborhood. This ride is often paired with a bike rodeo, providing a road setting to practice new bike handling skills. Community rides get kids and parents excited about riding in their neighborhoods and feeling empowered to use a bicycle to make every day short trips to school, the store, and park.

Brown Bag Presentation:

This 45 minute presentation is intended for employees during the lunch hour. The Bike Coalition will schedule a bike safety and bike commuting presentation that provides safety tips, information on the law, and a question and answer portion for curious new commuters.

Women and Family Riding Panel:

This panel will cover topics on women and family riding. Find out more about what is needed to safely ride with your family. What are other families doing? Which bike shops provide options for transporting your family by bike. Learn and converse with other women and family riders.

Smart Cycling (formerly Traffic Skills 101):

This two day course will get you comfortable on the road and ready to commute or make those short trips to the store, library, or park. This course includes a 3 hour classroom portion as well as a 6 hour road portion. BLT Rides (Bike & Learn Together)

A Casual Bike Ride with Traffic Safety Education

Once a month we offer a fun ride in a scenic part of San Diego County. Part learning experience, part coffee jaunt, these rides welcome all riders, but are geared for beginners. If you would like an introduction to road riding, riding in a group or just a nice morning out with some fun bicyclists, this is a ride for you. The rides are typically 8-10 miles, mostly flat on bike paths and lightly traveled roads. We do it at a pace that encourages talking and interaction. We talk a lot, stop a lot, while having fun and getting information about riding in various situations. No one is ever left behind.
