A Note from Executive Director Chloé Lauer

We are celebrating a month of firsts here at the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition:

The first time our Education Manager Kevin Baross delivered bike education programs to 1,000 people in one day!
The first time we had King Chavez High School students stop by to interview us while we were in the middle of a Media Training: the timing was impeccable!
The first time I took our Smart Cycling training with community members from across the county.
The first time we partnered with Bike Clairemont founder Barbarah Torres and BikeSD member Jason Vance to propose a Neighborhood Greenway quick build project in Clairemont.
Our first joint film screening with partners Families for Safe Streets San Diego, Circulate San Diego, and BikeSD at the Digital Gym – thanks to the 44 folks who attended and created such a rich panel discussion and Q&A dialogue.

We are eager to spend more time with you in YOUR community. Please reach out to invite us for a visit so we can experience the state of biking where you are first hand.

Supporting SANDAG's budget proposal

The Bike Coalition sent a joint letter with BikeSD to SANDAG board members encouraging them to vote yes on $643 million in funding to advance more than 30 projects in the region. The Youth Opportunity Pass was extended for two more years; six bikeways projects got needed funding; and the airport transit connection and purple line initiatives also received investment.

Mobility Master Plan update

The city wants your feedback! Mobility Master Plan: In October, the City of San Diego released a draft of the Mobility Master Plan, which is "a comprehensive transportation planning effort to create a balanced, equitable, and sustainable mobility system for the City of San Diego." Smart Cycling Session 1 – Oceanside

November 7th, 6 PM

The Smart Cycling Program is a great opportunity to learn how to ride your bike safely! League-Certified Instructors will share their wealth of knowledge and make sure you leave feeling comfortable riding on the road and in traffic.

Smart Cycling Session 2 – Oceanside

November 11th, 9 AM

Become a certified Smart Cyclist! This 6 hours on-road course is the 2nd session of our Smart Cycling Course. You must complete session 1 before registering for session 2.

City Cycling - Encinitas

November 18th, 9 AM

The San Diego County Bicycle Coalition is offering classes which will teach road rules, where to ride, general bike safety, emergency maneuvers, legal rights and responsibilities and will include a guided road ride to put your new skills into action!

CELEBRATE

World Day of Remembrance Vigil

November 17th, 4:30 PM

Join Families for Safe Streets San Diego for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. We will honor the 283 people killed in 2022 with a vigil, hear stories from their loved ones and remarks from elected officials and community members, as we call for action in their names.

World Day of Remembrance - Walk & Ride

November 18th, 10 AM

Join us for a Walk and Ride to celebrate the lives of our traffic victim friends and loved ones. Routes will be appropriate for all ages and abilities. SDCBC is leading the bike ride.

Shoe Drive

We are asking for donations of used, no-longer-needed shoes to support Families for Safe Streets San Diego. These empty shoes will visually represent those we’ve lost due to preventable traffic collisions at the World Day of Remembrance Event for Road Traffic Victims on Nov 17th. All shoes will be donated to charities following the event.

Become a Volunteer with SDCBC

The Jim Krause Memorial Charity Bicycle Ride of Point Loma is a ride in memory of our Point Loma Rotary fellow Jim Krause who unfortunately passed away 2012 from pancreatic cancer. This ride raises awareness and funds to research and hopefully one day, a cure.
