Support Traffic Calming on Carlsbad’s Tamarack Avenue

The City of Carlsbad is considering options to calm traffic on Tamarack Avenue, and we need your help convincing them to choose the safest option!

Tamarack Avenue is an essential East-West bicycle route through the heart of Carlsbad, and provides an important connection to the Coastal Rail Trail. It also serves community destinations including Valley Middle School, Jefferson Elementary School, and Calavera Hills Community Park.

Unfortunately, dangerously high speeds on this road are putting people biking and walking at risk. Since 2012, eight pedestrians and twelve people riding bikes have been injured along Tamarack Avenue. Since speed is the largest factor in determining whether crashes will be fatal, reducing traffic speeds along Tamarack Avenue is an essential public safety measure.

Carlsbad is considering speed cushions, curb extensions, and raised crosswalks along Tamarack Avenue, all of which are excellent options for reducing traffic speeds. To get this done, the planners will need to see a strong show of community support. To voice your support for these life-saving traffic calming measures, come speak at the community meeting!
