The Board of Directors is made up of passionate advocates, urban planners, transportation experts, and community leaders dedicated to making San Diego a safer and more accessible place for riding bikes. Representing a diverse range of backgrounds, our board members bring expertise in advocacy, education, policy, and grassroots organizing to guide our mission.

Jesse Ramirez
Jesse is the Director of Planning at City Heights CDC. He has led multimillion-dollar urban planning projects and worked extensively on community engagement, equity, and policy advocacy to create safer, more inclusive transportation networks.

Rosalind Haselbeck
Rosalind is a climate advocate and founder of the nonprofit Dwelling On Carbon, which focuses on carbon sequestration and water conservation. With a background in biology and a black belt in aikido, Rosalind is also an avid cyclist, frequently participating in rides to promote environmental awareness.

Katie Matchett
Katie is an urban planner with extensive experience in active transportation advocacy and policy. She has organized impactful community events such as CicloSDias Pacific Beach, and she brings expertise in transportation planning and public outreach.

Steve Myrick
Steve has cycled across Europe, Australia, and Japan, observing various cycling infrastructures. He believes safe bike infrastructure encourages more cycling and supports the Coalition's mission to improve quality of life through biking.

Derby Pattengill
Derby is a former professional cyclist and longtime PTA leader with advocacy experience at local, state, and federal levels. He works as a substitute teacher and brings valuable community insights to the board.

Nancy Bahena
Nancy is a lifelong transit rider, public health advocate, and community researcher committed to building safe, people-first communities across San Diego County. She brings a perspective grounded in lived experience, along with professional roles as an instructor, researcher, and certified Promotora (Community Health Worker). Nancy’s work centers on equity, health, and uplifting underrepresented voices, and she has extensive experience in civic and community engagement. She is drawn to the Bike Coalition’s ability to bridge advocacy, education, and community connection at a critical moment for green and active transportation.

Christopher Velasco
Christopher is a planner and policy advocate with deep experience in sustainable development, transportation planning, and government processes. He is a co-author of the SDSU/City of San Diego 30th Street Cycle Track analysis and previously worked at SANDAG on the Sustainable Communities team. Christopher brings strong skills in plan review, policy research, CEQA analysis, and legislative strategy, as well as experience presenting to elected officials and governing boards. He is motivated to help the Coalition strengthen its presence in local decision-making spaces and leverage policy, planning, and advocacy tools to advance safer, more equitable biking infrastructure.

Kyle Ryan
Kyle is a real estate housing developer and frequent city cyclist who brings a valuable perspective at the intersection of urban development, housing policy, and transportation. His professional experience navigating land use policy, community plan updates, and entitlement processes allows him to advocate for bike-friendly design from within the development sector. Kyle offers an insider’s understanding of how decisions are made and how to engage effectively with developers, planners, and policymakers. He is deeply aligned with the Coalition’s belief that biking should be safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, and he is excited to help embed that vision into future communities.

Emily Dayton
Emily is a daily bike commuter and enthusiastic advocate for practical, people-centered transportation. She brings a “regular rider” perspective to the Board, representing the many San Diegans who bike for convenience, health, and joy rather than sport. Professionally, Emily has spent nearly 13 years at UC San Diego and holds an MBA from the UCSD Rady School of Management. She is a graduate of the San Diego Chamber of Commerce’s LEAD Advance program and brings a business-minded approach to advocacy, with strengths in marketing, data-driven decision-making, and behavior change. Emily is excited to help make everyday biking more accessible and appealing across San Diego County.

Tatiana Lundström
Tatiana is an active transportation professional with experience in bike-friendly design and multimodal infrastructure projects. She brings technical knowledge from working on active transportation initiatives, paired with a strong passion for bike safety and best practices in street design. Tatiana is eager to contribute her professional expertise while continuing to learn from the Coalition’s community-centered approach. She is especially drawn to the Bike Coalition’s strong outreach and engagement and looks forward to helping translate good design into real-world safety improvements.

The San Diego County Bicycle Coalition's Board of Directors provides leadership and strategic direction, guiding advocacy, education, and community engagement efforts to make biking safer and more accessible.
Board meetings are open to the public, offering an opportunity to stay informed and contribute to the Coalition’s mission. The Board is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable cycling community.

Advocacy Committee
Meets every 2nd Wednesday on odd months at 6:30pm (Zoom)
The Advocacy Committee engages in outreach and education on government policies at all levels—local to federal. It oversees decisions on bike-related facilities, community plans, and policy responses, ensuring the Coalition’s voice is heard on public issues that affect cycling infrastructure and advocacy efforts.

Education Committee
Meets every 4th Thursday on odd months at 6:30pm (Zoom)
The Education Committee guides the Coalition’s education programs for schools, businesses, and community groups, aiming to improve bicycle safety and awareness. It develops and oversees safety initiatives, while also supporting volunteer coordination through a dedicated subcommittee to expand community outreach and engagement.

Outreach, Equity, and Membership Committee
Meets on the 3rd Wednesday of even month at 6pm
The Outreach, Equity, and Membership Committee focuses on building an inclusive cycling community through outreach, promoting equity, and increasing Coalition membership. It develops strategies to engage diverse communities, ensure representation, and grow membership while fostering meaningful connections to support the Coalition’s mission and advocacy efforts.

Council of Clubs

The Council of Clubs is a coalition of cycling clubs that unifies their collective voice to represent the broader cycling community. With an ex officio seat on the board, they meet regularly to discuss priorities, share insights, and advocate for policies that support cyclists across the region.
