World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is part of a global effort to honor people killed and seriously injured in traffic crashes, support their families, and push for proven safety changes.
Join Families for Safe Streets San Diego and safe streets advocates for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. This is a worldwide day to honor 1.35 million people killed each year in preventable traffic crashes and work for change.
In San Diego County, 538 people were killed in 2023 and 2024. Each memorial sign marks a real-life loss and reminds us that these deaths are preventable.
This year continues the work our community has done in past years. Families for Safe Streets San Diego will again work with partners across the region to remember, reflect, and take action.
Sign up to Volunteer. Volunteers will be given an area to place 5-10 signs at the intersections where fatal crashes have occurred.
What to Expect on 11/16
Gathering: Opening remarks from family members, advocates, and public officials.
Volunteer deployment: Teams receive sign kits, site lists, and safety guidance, then head out to assigned locations.
Countywide placements: Signs are installed at sites to honor neighbors killed in 2023 - 2025.
Safety and Respect
We place signs away from the public right-of-way and avoid blocking sidewalks or bike lanes.
Teams wear high-visibility vests and follow all traffic rules.
We act with care near homes, schools, and workplaces.
If a family member asks for changes at a location, we honor that request.
