Smart Cycling 2

Smart Cycling 2 is the second part of our comprehensive two-part Smart Cycling course. 

Age Notice

This class is designed for adults ages 18+ and may not be suitable for youth under 16 (though some 12 to 16 year olds may be successful). 

  • Youth ages 16-17 must have a parent or guardian drop them off and sign a waiver

  • Youth ages 12-15must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the course

What to Expect in Smart Cycling 2

  • Hands-On Practice

    • Parking Lot Session: Gain and enhance essential bike handling skills, including techniques like the "Power Start," scanning, and shifting. This session also covers critical crash avoidance maneuvers such as the Quick Stop, Instant Turn, and Rock Dodge, ensuring you're well-prepared for unexpected situations.

    • On-Road Session: Experience real-world cycling scenarios by riding on shared roadways, various types of bikeways, and different roadway conditions, including hills. This session provides strategies for safely navigating the challenges you’ll encounter on the road, building your confidence for everyday riding.

  • Community Connection: Join a network of like-minded cyclists passionate about promoting safe and responsible riding. Share experiences, tips, and build lasting connections within the cycling community.

You will need a bicycle and helmet for this class. Make sure your bike is in good working order and ready to ride! Some cycling experience is required; this is not a "learn-to-ride" class.

This class is for community members ages 12 and up. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian, and all youth under 18 must have a parent or guardian drop them off and sign a waiver. We highly recommend that parents/guardians take this class with their children so they can both learn the skills and road rules and hold each other accountable.

Helmets are REQUIRED for all riders.
