Review the Draft Street Design Manual Update

Advocate for Safer Streets in San Diego

The City of San Diego has released its Street Design Manual Update Draft. Now is your chance to help shape the future of our streets! This manual is a critical tool for designing public spaces that serve diverse purposes while aligning with the City’s goals for sustainability, safety, and mobility.

Here’s how the City describes the manual:

“The Street Design Manual provides information and guidance for the design of the public right-of-way that recognizes the many and varied purposes that a street serves. It complements compact, mixed-use development, supports walkable and bikeable neighborhoods, and substantiates the importance of site planning in the design of an effective, connected, multimodal street system.”

At the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, we believe this is a pivotal opportunity to ensure our streets prioritize safety for everyone—especially cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users—and effectively promote active modes of transportation. We encourage all community members to review the draft manual and submit comments advocating for designs that:

  • Enhance cyclist and pedestrian safety through protected infrastructure.

  • Support accessible, multimodal transportation options.

  • Align with the City’s Climate Action Plan to reduce emissions and create healthier neighborhoods.

Make your voice heard! Visit the City’s website to review the draft Street Design Manual and submit your comments. Together, we can work toward a safer, more sustainable San Diego.
