About ReBikeSD

Everyone deserves access to a bike.

Our mission is to encourage cycling and build healthy, bicycle-friendly communities through repair, education and advocacy, and to put bicycles in the hands of those with limited means through effort, not cost.

Our story

ReBikeSD started in August 2024, when five San Diegans who had worked together at other bike organizations for years decided to start their own nonprofit. The goal was simple: expand access to bicycles and bike repair in our communities.

We started out of our garages. Today we run a Sunday clinic at 300 15th Street in East Village, bring our tools to schools and community events, and work across the border in Tijuana.

We believe everyone deserves access to a bicycle. For people with very limited means, we ask for a little effort instead of money: helping another rider fix a flat, sweeping up the shop, lending a hand around the space. In exchange, they earn a bike of their own.

Our impact

Bikes back on the road, parts out of the landfill.

400+

bikes donated in 2025 to individuals and partner organizations across San Diego and Tijuana

1 a day

almost a bike every day returned to the community during 2024

100%

volunteer led

For many of our riders, a bike is not recreation. It is how they get to work and to the appointments that matter.

What we do

Recycle, repair, rejoice.

Affordable bikes

Low-cost and earned bikes for adults, kids and organizations, to get to work, ride to school and enjoy the outdoors.

How-to clinics

Hands-on repair help every Sunday, so riders can maintain and fix their own bikes.

Outreach

Repair and safe riding support for schools and local organizations, from San Diego to Tijuana.

Recycling

Bikes beyond repair get stripped for parts. The rest is recycled, not dumped.

FAQ

Are you a bike shop?

No. We are a volunteer-run bike collective. We will not fix your bike for you, but we will give you the tools and guide you through the fix.

Do I need any experience?

None. Not to fix your bike, earn a bike or volunteer.

Do you give bikes away?

People with very limited means can earn a bike by pitching in at the shop. We also donate bikes through partner organizations. Know someone who needs one? Request a bike.

What does it cost to fix my bike?

The help is free. If you need a part, ask us. [FILL IN: parts pricing]

No. ReBikeSD is its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We partner with the Bike Coalition, which hosts our Sunday clinic at its office on 15th Street.
