Fix a Bike

Bring your bike on Sunday. We are not a bike shop, but we have the tools, the parts and the know-how, and we will guide you through the fix.

What to expect

  1. Check in

Tell a volunteer at the front what is going on with your bike.

  2. Fix it together

A volunteer mechanic shows you the problem, hands you the tools and walks you through the repair. You learn by doing.

  3. Ride away

Leave with a working bike and the know-how to keep it that way.

Tech Tips: the ABC quick check

Do this before every ride. It takes a minute and catches most problems before they leave you walking.

A is for Air

Pump your tires to the pressure printed on the side of the tire. Soft tires flat more often.

B is for Brakes

Squeeze both levers. They should stop the wheel firmly before the lever touches the handlebar.

C is for Chain

Look for rust, dirt or skipping. A clean, oiled chain shifts better and lasts longer.

Quick check

Make sure wheel quick releases are closed and nothing rattles or wobbles. Then go ride.

More tips coming. Got a question? Bring it on Sunday or email info@rebikesd.org.

On the road

Bring a repair clinic to your school or community.

We bring stands, tools and volunteer mechanics to schools, community groups and events on both sides of the border, and teach bike repair and safe riding while we are there.
