Bike Theft

Steps to Safeguard your Bike from Theft

… and what to do if your bike is stolen.

REGISTER YOUR BIKE (below)

Register your bike with Bike Index (below) – It’s Free!

They work with their community and partners to help recover your bike.

LOCK YOUR BIKE

Always lock your bike properly with a suitable lock.  Some locks come with a warranty so make sure you follow the steps to register your lock!

LOCK YOUR WHEELS & COMPONENTS

Lock wheels & other components to your frame with Pinhead locks so your wheels or frame don’t get stolen.

FILE A POLICE REPORT

If your bike is stolen, file a police report.  Stolen bikes are often repainted and sold quickly, so file a report as soon as possible!

REGISTER EVEN IF YOUR BIKE WAS ALREADY STOLEN

If your bike wasn’t registered on Bike Index or your local Police Department, register it now with as much information as you have.

POST ABOUT IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Post about the theft and keep an eye on local buy/sell groups.  Check in with pawn shops. They won’t buy stolen bikes, but they will check the police database for bikes reported stolen.
