Pride Ride for SD Design Week
September 8, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - September 11, 2021 @ 2:00 pm

Get on a bicycle and explore historic homes, community gathering spaces and public art that memorializes and celebrates the LGBTQI+ Community in Central San Diego. We start at Hillcrest Pride Flag, a gathering space that was erected to pay homage to the struggle and resilience of the LGBTQI+ community. From there it’s a 10-mile guided bike ride through University Heights, North Park and Balboa Park, with an opportunity to hear from guest speakers about former venues, art and sites of community activism. The ride ends back in Hillcrest, San Diego’s “gayborhood,” where attendees are welcome to relax at Gossip Grill and learn more about how this area has developed in the last 100 years.
Sites along the route include:
- Recently renovated historic buildings and formers homes of LBGTQI+ community leaders
- Art and sculpture that memorializes notable local LGBTQI+ activists
- Venues and community gathering spaces for the LBGTQI+ community
- A history of how Hillcrest’s business district has developed and become a haven for the LGBTQI+ community in San Diego
