Vote YES on AB 122 – Bicycle Safety Stop
Today, the way most people on bikes approach a stop-sign controlled intersection is illegal: approaching the intersection carefully, yielding to other traffic and pedestrians, rolling through if safe, and slowing and stopping if necessary.
AB 122 legalizes this common-sense practice. This would allow people on bikes to treat STOP signs as Yield signs, requiring them to yield to pedestrians and traffic in the intersection and stop as necessary for safety. Bike riders will no longer risk a citation or arrest, a risk that is compounded for Black and brown people as we know from too many examples of traffic stops with tragic results.
